Our first "Cookie of the Week" is Gooey Butter. Now, for those of you who grew up in the Midwest, more specifically, St. Louis, the Gooey Butter Cake is delicious, but nothing out of the ordinary. When I first moved to the Northeast I had no idea that the Gooey Butter Cake was not universal, and further that when I shared a cookie called the Gooey Butter Cookie, that people would look at me like I had grown two heads (the same thing happened when I mentioned the Chocolate Longjohn - which apparently, is a donut that does not go by that moniker up here and further, comes across as a "dirty word", but I digress).
To those not in the know about the gooey butter cake or cookie, the idea of eating something labeled gooey, followed by butter, was quite alien. However, after some cajoling I was able to convince these Northeasterners to give the cookie a try and the response has been fantastic.
"What is this wonderful treat that is so rich and buttery?"
"It's not a cookie, it's a mini-cake?"
"These things are addictive!"
And so, with reviews like those, how could we NOT offer the gooey butter cookie as part of the Silver Lining Cookie repertoire? So just how did the Gooey Butter Cookie enter the fray? Well, the answer is pretty simple. You all are probably well aware now of the fact that while growing up, I along with my Mom and Grandma, used to bake twenty different varieties of cookies each Holiday Season. Well, every year we would try out a few new cookies - rotating out some "less popular" varieties to make room for some new recipes...
Grandma would always have her eyes out for these recipes. Some were located in newspapers, others buried in aging cookbooks and others came from friends who knew of Grandma's passion for baking cookies. Well, the Gooey Butter cookie was one of those recipes that came highly recommended by one of Grandma's buddies. I'm not sure which one sent the recipe her way, but once the Gooey Butter Cookie entered our Holiday Cookie rotation it became an instant classic and was never rotated out of the line-up.
Thus, we are delighted to include this rich and buttery (as the name implies) cookie, dusted with powdered sugar in our line-up as well! We hope that you enjoy sampling it and all of our other cookies. We've included the Gooey Butter Cookie in our Decadent Collection (Under Packages and Assortments). You'll also receive some of these treats in the Variety Package - of course you can always order the Gooey Butter Cookie by the dozen as well!
One last reminder - get your Thanksgiving Cookie orders in by November 20 to ensure delivery by November 26! Order by November 15 and receive $1.00 off your order (enter the code MAYFLOWER at check-out to get your dollar off).
